Maybe you think you’re pregnant and believe your parents will pressure you to abort, or they are currently pressuring you. If this goes against your wishes, how you handle it depends on several factors.

First, do you know for sure that you are pregnant?

Options Pregnancy Clinic can provide free and confidential pregnancy tests and ultrasounds. Contact us today to schedule your appointment.

Once you confirm you are pregnant, you can begin thinking about your next steps. If your parents are pressuring you to abort, what can you do?

1. Are You Certain You Know What Your Parents Would Want You to Do?

Sometimes, we can jump to conclusions. Have you had a conversation with your parents about your pregnancy? Did you tell them how you feel?

A conversation would be a beneficial first step if you have a healthy relationship with your parents. If things are tense, or there has been any type of abuse, avoid having the conversation with them alone and consider calling them on the phone, bringing a friend, or telling them in a public setting.

2. Are You a Minor?

What can you do if you are a minor living with your parents? First of all, it is illegal in every state to coerce anyone, even a minor, to get an abortion.

If you are facing this situation, is there a family member that you could talk to that might help you intercede with your parents? Perhaps an aunt or a grandparent?

Do you attend a church? Can someone there meet with you as a family?

If nothing works, and you are being forced to abort, you need to contact law enforcement. Your parents cannot make you have an abortion against your will.

3. Are You An Adult?

Even though it might be difficult, you need to make your own decision about your pregnancy. This decision will impact you the most.

Even as an adult, is there a family member who might be willing to speak with your parents? Is there someone your parents respect who may be willing to act as an intermediary?
