Did She Say, “I’m Pregnant”?

There are very few words that can strike fear in a man than hearing that your partner is unexpectedly pregnant. It is overwhelming for both of you, and we’re sure you have many questions. Don’t panic. Here are a few steps you should take first:

Make Sure She Is Pregnant

Did you know that up to 26% of pregnancies end in a natural miscarriage? Many times, a miscarriage happens before the pregnancy is discovered. It is possible to get a positive pregnancy test days or even weeks after a miscarriage.

Have her set up an appointment at Options Pregnancy Clinic and come with her. We provide free and confidential pregnancy testing and a limited ultrasound that confirms if the pregnancy is viable (growing) and how far along she is.

What Are Your Options?

She is pregnant, but now you are both parents. The decision will be ultimately hers, but she needs to know what you think. Learn about all three of your options.

Although we do not provide or refer for abortion, we can give you factual information about procedures, side effects, and potential risks. We can also offer information and referrals for adoption agencies and provide resources if she chooses to parent.

Talk With One of Our Men’s Mentors

If you need to talk with a trustworthy man, we have men available to discuss your situation, the pregnancy, and your future. Consider also sharing the news with others who are close to you.

Don’t Pressure Her

Be present. Offer to help her make this critical decision. Don’t pressure her or check out by saying, “Whatever you decide is fine with me.” No one wants to take responsibility for this decision on their own.

Learn About the Resources Available to You

In addition to mentors, we offer classes for men choosing to be fathers. Our free program is called “Dad Prep University.” You’ll learn vital information about her pregnancy, parenting, and fatherhood.

Before making a decision about her pregnancy, please talk with us about your situation. Fill out our confidential online form or call (417) 336-5483.
